What I learned from The Fire

Will you walk on hot embers ?

I did. At Eric Ho’s “Master The Stage” event in Bangalore.

It was a beautiful warm night, a gentle breeze caressing the skin, we
gathered around the open space where the fire logs were kept. In a
piece of paper, we had written down what we wanted to let go of with
the help of the fire. These intentions when we write it down, we
acknowledge its existence within us and when we let it go in the fire, it
becomes a powerful way of allowing our minds to let go of things that
were holding us back from being a better version of ourselves.

The intention that I had written down in a piece of paper held tightly in
my hand, we formed a circle around the fire log and held hands. After
we put our intentions in the logs, one of our fellow members of the
group lit the fire. The flames went up bright in the dark night and
continued to dance as the wind gently blows.

Eyes closed, feeling the warmth of the flames on my face, I stood there
feeling its majestic power. It is completely different to be able to think ,

” Oh, sure , I can walk on Fire, figure out what’s it all about”

than to be standing in front of it and feeling its Force. As I stood there
looking into the fire, I felt humbled. I surrendered to its greatness and
prayed to be able to connect with this powerful energy.
I stood there with my inner chant going, “I am yours , you are mine. I
am you. You are me. I am but a mere vessel, let your power manifest
within me.”

As the logs continue to burn, we three Yogis paid our respect by
performing Agni Namaskar (Fire Salutation) , as taught by Grandmaster
Akshar. We waited until the logs were completely burnt and what
remains were the red hot embers at 1700 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s
when our mentor/ coach Eric Ho declared the fire is ready for us to walk
on. He warned us to respect the fire and not let ego get the better of us.
Armed with advice from the Master, we gathered around the fire with
the music pumping on to muster the courage to take the first steps. I
saw a few of our members crossing the fire. I was trying very hard to
not look at the red hot embers. I looked straight ahead, mustered up all
the courage that I could, prayed to the energies to be to be able to tune
in to the space where I am in one with the fire.. and then I walked. I felt
it stinging my feet and I walked some more. I walked on my own, I
walked with my fellow Yogis. In silence I walked, with the chants I
walked. The group chanting on, we held a space where we were
continuously motivating, cheering and helping each other. There is
something amazing about group energy, everyone pulling each other up
as we leave our fear behind and walked on the Fire.

The fire left me with two lovely souveneirs on my feet, a reminder of its
power. As Eric would put it, I was kissed by the fire. When I saw him
again two days later , I told him that I was kissed by the fire, and he
replied, “It was only because the fire loves you”.
I am very thankful to Eric for his guidance and to let us be part of this
life changing experience. As I write this a few days after the fire walk, I
know what I experienced was transformational, a breakthrough in my
life. I know that I have truly let go of some of the things that were
holding me back.
Humbled and with gratitude in my heart towards my Masters, I move
forward in life to learn some more, to share a lot more and to spread as
much love as I can on the way.
Until next time.

CORPORATE YOGA - Bringing Yoga to the workplace!

Why corporate Yoga, you may ask and what value will it bring it to my organisation ? Did you know that Absenteeism caused by stress related illnesses already costs the Global Corporate World Billions of Dollars each year and it's steadily increasing year on year? I am Rebecca. I am a Master level Yoga teacher. I teach Yoga in my studio and  I have trained multiple Yoga teacher aspirants.  Before starting to teach Yoga professionally, I worked in different Global Corporations in various roles, the last couple of them being in leadership roles. Each of the different roles that I participated in over the years in corporate world brought it's own different demands of my time and effort and I saw how it can lead to a stressful state of mind. Stress is unseen and usually piles up over a period of time and a slight (often unrelated) trigger can unleash some unfortunate effects in our day-to-day life. We may not even notice as this stress buil...

An Observer's view of the Fire Walk

I was gifted an opportunity to be an observer from the side lines of this special event. I couldn't partake in the walk itself due to the strength of the soles of my feet. I find it very difficult to walk barefoot on any surface that is slightly rough. Having excused myself from the actual 'Fire Walk' event I was able to do something I am very practiced at, I observed, I'm an artist, I love people, I've been watching and drawing people for many years. Of course I attended the Pre-Walk presentation, this is essential for all participants and for me, as an observer, I needed to know what, and how, the people were supposed to be doing for the transformational walk. I needed to know that when the 'EGO' shows it's head, there is likely to be pain close at hand. The EGO is ever present and can be an enemy to us at times. Just when we think we might understand something the EGO raises its head and tells us 'I've got this', 'this isn...
